Laser transmission welding of plastics generally uses the near infrared radiation (Wavelength range: 800 nm-1100 nm) as the welding heat energy. The process of laser transmission welding includes the joining of two overlapping components under a clamping pressure. The laser beam passing through the laser transparent part is absorbed by the surface of lower material to generate heat. And then the heat is conducted to the overlapped interface, locally melting both parts, and in the process forming the weld seam after cooling under the clamping force. It is usually required that the upper material can transmit maximum radiation (>30%) and the lower material should be capable of absorbing the laser radiation.
JinYoung have developed a variety of laser weldable plastics, including modified PA6, PA66, PBT, PPA and PC, etc. Typical grades are listed as follows:
Laser transparent grades | Abbreviated designation | Burning behavior | Features | Laser absorbing grades |
BG30LT | PA6-GF30 | HB | Glassfiber reinforced,Heat resistance | BG30E |
AG30LT | PA66-GF30 | HB | Glassfiber reinforced,Heat resistance | AG30E/AG30N |
TG30LT | PBT-GF30 | HB | Glassfiber reinforced | TG30E |
CTG30LT | PBT+PC-GF30 | HB | Glassfiber reinforced,Low warpage | TG30E |
H1G40LT | PPA-GF40 | HB | Glassfiber reinforced,Heat resistance | H1G40E |
C20ULT | PC FR | V-0 | Halogen-free flame retardant | C20U |
